In order to help organisations protect themselves against various cyber threats, the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) developed a set of prioritised mitigation strategies, with the most effective of these known as the Essential Eight.
The Essential Eight Maturity Model, first published in June 2017 and regularly updated, validates the implementation of the Essential Eight in an organisation. It is based on ASD’s experience in producing cyber threat intelligence, responding to cyber security incidents and conducting penetration testing.
The last major update to this standard was in November 2023. Introspectus testing and analysis is based on the updated rules.
