What were some of the key challenges or frustrations you were facing before using Assessor?
Before Assessor, we struggled with maintaining consistent compliance across multiple endpoints. Manual checks were time-consuming, and reporting for Essential Eight maturity was fragmented, making it hard to give executives a clear picture of our cyber posture. On top of that, we had very little visibility into our actual Essential Eight maturity level or what steps we needed to take to improve it. It felt like we were working in the dark, which made planning and prioritising security improvements difficult.
What made you decide to try our Assessor module?
We decided to try Assessor because it offered exactly what we needed—automated, continuous auditing aligned with the ACSC Essential Eight. The ability to get real-time compliance insights and clear, actionable remediation steps was a major factor in our decision. Compared to other tools, Assessor stood out for its simplicity and focus on the Essential Eight framework.
Which features of Assessor have had the biggest impact on your daily routine or business operations?
The automated compliance checks every 12 hours have been a game-changer. We also love the clear dashboards that make it easy to see where we stand at any moment. The remediation guidance is another standout feature – it turns technical findings into practical steps, which saves us hours of guesswork and helps us close gaps quickly. And the new Installed Applications tool is amazing – it gives us visibility into software across our environment, helping us standardise and reduce risk in ways we couldn’t before.
What changes have you noticed since using the product? Have you seen measurable results or benefits? How has it helped you achieve your goals?
Since implementing Assessor, we’ve seen a measurable improvement in our Essential Eight maturity level. Reporting is now streamlined, and we can confidently present our compliance posture to the board. It’s helped us move from a reactive approach to a proactive one, which has significantly strengthened our overall cybersecurity strategy. Another major benefit is that Assessor has helped us narrow down our search and requirements for cybersecurity products and services from external vendors. By clearly identifying gaps and priorities, we can make smarter, more targeted decisions when engaging with third-party solutions.
Can you share how using Assessor has transformed your workflow, efficiency, or results?
Assessor has completely transformed our workflow. What used to take days now takes minutes. Instead of spending time on manual audits and chasing compliance gaps, our team can focus on strategic improvements. This shift has freed up resources and improved efficiency across the board.
Were there any surprises or unexpected benefits that came with using Assessor? Has the product helped you in ways you didn’t anticipate?
One unexpected benefit has been how much easier it is to communicate with leadership. The executive dashboards make it simple to explain technical risks in business terms, which has strengthened support for our cybersecurity initiatives. It’s also improved collaboration between IT and management, which we didn’t anticipate at first.
What would you say to someone who is considering Assessor for the first time? Would you recommend our product to others? If so, what would you tell them?
If you’re considering Assessor, don’t hesitate. It’s easy to deploy, delivers immediate value, and takes the stress out of compliance. For us as a not-for-profit, Assessor has helped us exceed what we thought was possible, especially considering where we were before – limited visibility, manual processes, and uncertainty about our Essential Eight maturity. Today, we have confidence, clarity, and a proactive security posture that rivals much larger organisations. We’d absolutely recommend Assessor to any organisations aiming for Essential Eight maturity – it’s a tool that truly makes a difference and empowers you to achieve more than you imagined.
What were some of the key challenges or frustrations you were facing before using Assessor?
Before implementing Introspectus Assessor, one of our biggest challenges was obtaining an accurate and defensible view of our Essential Eight maturity. While we had policies, procedures, and security technologies in place, validating that these controls were consistently operating as intended across the environment was difficult. Evidence collection was largely manual, time-consuming, and often provided only a point-in-time snapshot.
Our goal was to move beyond periodic compliance assessments and gain continuous visibility into our security posture, enabling us to make informed decisions based on real operational data rather than assumptions.
What made you decide to try our Assessor module?
We discovered Introspectus while searching for a more effective way to manage and assess our Essential Eight obligations.
What immediately stood out was that Assessor is more than a compliance checklist. Rather than relying solely on documented controls, it analyses endpoint data and provides evidence-based insights into how security controls are actually performing across the environment.
From an IT management perspective, this was critical. I wanted a solution that could independently validate our security posture and provide objective evidence, rather than relying on the assumption that configurations had been implemented correctly.
Which features of Assessor have had the biggest impact on your daily routine or business operations?
The most valuable feature is the visibility Assessor provides.
Having a clear view of our Essential Eight position, combined with the ability to drill down into specific controls, systems, and devices, allows us to quickly identify areas of risk and prioritise remediation efforts.
The continuous assessment capability is equally important. Instead of waiting for the next formal review, we can identify issues as they emerge and maintain ongoing awareness of our security posture.
The remediation guidance also delivers significant value by helping the team understand not only what requires attention, but also where to focus effort to achieve meaningful improvements.
What changes have you noticed since using the product? Have you seen measurable results or benefits? How has it helped you achieve your goals?
The most significant outcome has been the increased confidence we now have in our Essential Eight maturity and overall cybersecurity posture.
Previously, there was always a degree of uncertainty. We could reasonably assume controls were in place, but proving their effectiveness required considerable effort and often lacked comprehensive evidence.
Assessor has changed that by providing objective, evidence-based visibility into our environment.
It has also significantly reduced the manual effort associated with preparing for assessments and gathering supporting evidence. As a result, our team spends less time validating compliance and more time addressing genuine security risks and improving our environment.
Can you share how using Assessor has transformed your workflow, efficiency, or results?
While Assessor has not fundamentally changed how we manage IT, it has transformed the way we approach Essential Eight and cybersecurity governance.
The conversation has shifted from asking, “Are we compliant?” to asking, “What is our security posture today, and where should we focus our improvement efforts?”
This represents a far more mature and effective approach to cybersecurity. It aligns with a risk-based management philosophy that prioritises evidence, visibility, and continuous improvement over simply satisfying compliance requirements.
Were there any surprises or unexpected benefits that came with using Assessor? Has the product helped you in ways you didn’t anticipate?
One of the most valuable and unexpected benefits has been the level of endpoint visibility available through the platform.
An overall maturity score can sometimes mask underlying issues. Assessor enables us to identify individual devices that are not meeting expected controls, allowing us to address weaknesses before they become larger risks.
This level of insight supports a more proactive security strategy and strengthens our ability to maintain consistent standards across the environment.
It has also improved communication with management. Cybersecurity outcomes can be difficult to articulate to non-technical stakeholders, but the ability to present objective, evidence-based information makes discussions around risk, maturity, and investment decisions far more effective.
What would you say to someone who is considering Assessor for the first time? Would you recommend our product to others? If so, what would you tell them?
I would confidently recommend Introspectus Assessor to organisations responsible for managing Essential Eight maturity and improving cybersecurity outcomes.
Its greatest value lies in removing uncertainty. Rather than relying on assumptions or periodic assessments, Assessor provides continuous, evidence-based visibility into what is actually happening across the environment.
This shifts cybersecurity from being a compliance exercise conducted once or twice a year to an ongoing process of monitoring, validation, and improvement.
For our organisation, that continuous visibility, combined with actionable insights and evidence-driven reporting, has been the most significant benefit and has materially improved our ability to manage cybersecurity risk.
What were some of the key challenges or frustrations you were facing before using Assessor?
Before using Assessor, one of our biggest challenges was the lack of visibility into whether the security controls we had deployed were actually functioning as intended. For example, we had application control configured through Intune, but we had no reliable way to confirm whether it was actively blocking threats or simply sitting there without effect. We assumed it was working, but we had no real way to verify it at a granular level.
What made you decide to try our Assessor module?
We were drawn to Assessor primarily because of its ease of use and the clarity it provided around what needed to be actioned. Unlike other tools we looked at, it gave us a straightforward view of gaps and what was required to address them. The pricing was also very reasonable, which made it an easy decision.
Which features of Assessor have had the biggest impact on your daily routine or business operations?
The standout feature for us is the device-level compliance visibility. Rather than working from a high-level policy overview, Assessor tells us exactly which specific controls are not being met and on which devices. This level of detail has been invaluable – for instance, we discovered that application control, which we believed was functioning correctly, was in fact not blocking threats across multiple staff members and locations. That was a significant finding we would not have uncovered otherwise.
What changes have you noticed since using the product? Have you seen measurable results or benefits? How has it helped you achieve your goals?
Since implementing Assessor, we’ve had much greater confidence in our security posture. We’ve been able to identify and remediate gaps that had gone undetected, and our compliance reporting is now far more accurate and evidence-based. The visibility we’ve gained has allowed us to have more informed conversations with leadership about our security position and prioritise improvements more effectively.
Can you share how using Assessor has transformed your workflow, efficiency, or results?
Assessor has fundamentally changed how we approach security compliance. Previously, our approach was largely assumption-based – we deployed controls and trusted they were working. Now, we have continuous, real-time insight into our environment. This shift has made our compliance processes more proactive rather than reactive, and has significantly reduced the risk of undetected gaps sitting in our environment for extended periods.
Were there any surprises or unexpected benefits that came with using Assessor? Has the product helped you in ways you didn’t anticipate?
One of the more unexpected benefits has been how Assessor supports ongoing monitoring rather than being a point-in-time assessment. We hadn’t fully anticipated the value of continuous monitoring until we started seeing changes and drift flagged in near real-time. It has effectively become a live health check of our security controls, which is something we didn’t have before and now find hard to imagine operating without.
What would you say to someone who is considering Assessor for the first time? Would you recommend our product to others? If so, what would you tell them?
I would absolutely recommend Assessor to any organisation looking to move beyond tick-box compliance and gain genuine visibility into their security controls. If you’re deploying policies and controls but aren’t entirely certain they’re working the way you think they are, Assessor will quickly show you the reality. It’s practical, accessible, and delivers real insight without requiring a large investment of time or resources to get value from it.
Each agent compares the current patch list against what is actually installed on its device. Any gap between what has been released and what is deployed is immediately surfaced. Critically, Introspectus pays particular attention to the timing of patch deployment not just whether a patch is present, but when it was applied.
This temporal dimension is central to Essential Eight compliance, where the difference between a patch applied on day two versus day thirty can mean the difference between maturity levels, and between an environment that was protected and one that was exposed.
This combination of daily patch intelligence, severity-based filtering, agent-level validation, and deployment timing analysis gives organisations a real-time, evidence-based view of their operating system patch posture mapped directly to the ISM controls applicable to the Essential Eight patch operating systems strategy.
The visibility gap here is particularly consequential. A patch may be approved and scheduled, yet never successfully applied due to a failed deployment, a device that was offline during the maintenance window, a reboot that was deferred, or a system that exists outside managed channels entirely.
Organisations that rely solely on deployment tooling to confirm patch status are measuring intent, not reality. The ACSC is explicit on this point: organisations need to confirm patches have been applied successfully, not merely that they were dispatched.
Within the Essential Eight framework, patching operating systems is a core and non-negotiable control. The ACSC sets clear expectations: patches for internet-facing infrastructure must be applied within 48 hours when identified as critical or where working exploits exist, and within two weeks for standard releases.
Patches for workstations, servers, and network devices must be applied within one month, with tighter timeframes applying in high-threat environments. Critically, the ACSC also mandates that vulnerability scanning occurs at least daily for internet-facing systems and at least fortnightly for workstations and non-internet-facing infrastructure not to replace patching, but to confirm it has actually occurred.
From this inventory, Introspectus performs targeted web intelligence gathering. For each application identified, the platform locates the top five authoritative sources of patch and release information vendor security advisories, release notes, and vulnerability databases and retrieves that content into a central repository.
Aletheia, Introspectus’s AI analysis agent, then reads and analyses this content to extract the intelligence that matters for application patching: the latest available version, whether a release addresses a security vulnerability, the severity of that vulnerability, and all information relevant to the Essential Eight application patching requirements. This structured intelligence is mapped directly to the applicable ISM controls, producing defensible, audit-ready evidence of an organisation’s application patch compliance posture.
A critical and frequently overlooked problem is the visibility gap. Organisations may believe their applications are current when, in reality, patches have silently failed, devices have missed deployment windows, or software has been installed outside of managed channels entirely.
Without continuous inspection at the endpoint level, these gaps go undetected until an audit or, worse, a breach.
Within the Essential Eight standard, patching applications is a dedicated and non-negotiable control. The ACSC specifies clear timeframes: critical vulnerabilities in internet-facing services must be addressed within 48 hours, commonly used applications such as office productivity suites, web browsers, email clients and PDF software must be patched within two weeks of release, and all other applications within one month.
For organisations in high-threat environments, the bar is higher still. Meeting these requirements consistently across hundreds of distinct applications deployed across thousands of endpoints is not achievable through manual effort alone.
